As Director of Investments at the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, Ellen Brownell brings over 20 years’ experience to the Investment team across all aspects of asset allocation, manager diligence and risk management, particularly in the areas of ESG and DEI. As an Associate Vice President and member of the Leadership Team, she participates in the strategic management of the Foundation.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ellen served as Senior Investment Advisor at Pohlad Investment Management in Minneapolis, and before she moved with her family to Saint Paul, she was the Managing Director, Asset Allocation, Risk Management and Innovative Solutions at San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System. She has also held senior positions on the endowment investment teams at University of Delaware and Dartmouth College.
Ellen serves on the Minnesota State Board Investment Advisory Council, as well as the Girls Who Invest Advisory Board and DEI Subcommittee. She is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Minnesota and the Private Equity Women Investment Network and was formerly a member of the Investment Committee of the Vermont Community Foundation. Ellen graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in English.
